About The Denton & Dallas Texas Area Weather
Dallas Fort Worth Weather
Because of the dramatic changes in the North Texas climate, there are plenty of home and business owners that deal with weather-related wear and tear on their roof. What type of weather do you need to worry about in Dallas Fort Worth?
Hurricane Level Winds
With the humidity in North Texas, the water damage can quickly turn to mildew and can spread like wildfire. Before you know it, the entire roofing system is riddled with mold and mildew. What’s even worse, when water leaks in through the roof, it can flow into your walls, ceilings, even your electrical wiring can be damaged. Leaving your roofing system exposed after a serious wind storm can cause more serious damage in the long run.
These types of winds also have the ability to rip large branches off of trees. Smaller branches are usually not a problem for shingles, however, when large branches and other types of debris end up on your roof they can cause serious damage to the shingles.
The plywood underneath your shingles is not meant to handle this type of weather. Being able to replace your Dallas Fort Worth roofing shingles right away can help further water damage to the underlying structure. Make sure that if your roof has missing or obviously damaged shingles that you call to have your roof inspected for possible repairs.
Hurricanes
More times than not the weather we see from nearby hurricanes is no more than a severe thunderstorm and seriously strong winds. Even so, these storms can still have a pretty serious effect on your property like your roof. Serious wind damage and further water damage is not uncommon for this type of weather.
Being able to prepare for this type of weather when a hurricane is moving towards the coast is always a good idea. Being able to trim up tree branches, secure outdoor furniture, or have your roof inspected for possible leaks is always recommended if you are expecting severe weather as this.
Dramatic Changes in Temperature
This is because Texas has such a varied amount of different climates all within a very short distance of each other. These types of dramatic temperature changes are a serious problem in Dallas which can cause extreme changes in the weather.
These types of dramatic changes can affect your roof in a very real way. The dramatic heating and cooling and vise versa can cause the roof to expand and contract very rapidly. This can cause the overall integrity of your roof to be at stake. It’s called thermal shock and it’s a very real problem that has to be carefully looked after.
Thermal shock can cause damage to the roof including cracks, seams tearing apart, flashing becoming separated, as well as joints cracking or completely separating. Just one instance of thermal shock can cause this to happen, but in Dallas Fort Worth, we see dramatic temperature changes all the time.
The prolonged exposure to these types of temperature changes will begin to damage your roof. So make sure to have your roof inspected if you think thermal shock might be an issue.
Tornadoes
Always being prepared for a tornado is important and that includes making sure your home is prepared. More often than not, your roof is the part of the home that will suffer the most from vicious tornadoes and the wind and rain that comes along with it.
Some tornadoes produce winds strong enough to not just tear your shingles off but to tear the entire roof all together. Ripping trees right out of the ground, throwing cars hundreds of feet, tornadoes are mean serious business.
Because of how dangerous and damaging tornadoes are you may need to have some serious damages repaired. Our Denton and Dallas Fort Worth team is here to help you and your home after a natural disaster like this.
Hail Storms
Because of the dramatic temperature fluctuations and the multiple climates that we have here in Texas, we unfortunately see a lot of hail storms. More than most anywhere else in the country. On top of the frequency of hail storms we have, North Texas also sees a lot of damage from hail.
Golf ball or even soft ball sized hailstones are not uncommon and can cause serious damage, leaving cars undrivable, as well as homes unlivable. Constantly, we see hail damage roofing systems to the point where serious repairs are needed to keep the roof functioning properly.
Heavy Rainfall
Dealing with water damage is never fun and can seriously affect your entire roofing system as well as the rest of your home. If there is a leak in your roof and it isn’t caught right away, the water could be leaking into the rest of your home, damaging your walls, your ceilings, or even your electrical wiring. There is no knowing where the water can get to or what it could be destroying.
Making sure to regularly have your roof checked is the best way to prevent serious damage and costly repairs, not just to your roof, but for the entire house. Regular maintenance is the best way to keep your home protected inside and out.
Cold Weather, Snow, and Ice
Ice has the ability to damage your roof in several different ways. Not often but every once and a while the Dallas Fort Worth area will see enough ice build up and a heavy enough snowfall to see roof cave ins. This happens due to the build up of snow that becomes too heavy for the roof to hold up and the roofing system will buckle under the weight. It’s not always very noticeable but even a small indentation is enough to cause puddling and leaks in your roof.
You can also deal with what’s called an ice dam. Denton and Dallas Fort Worth homeowners need to watch out for this because with how quickly the temperature can drop in North Texas it’s easy to rain to quickly turn to ice. An ice dam is caused by water (usually melting snow) flowing off of the roof.
When the melting snow or water begins to freeze at the edge of the roof, the flashing can tear right off of the roof due to the forming ice. This can damage your gutters and cause serious leaks when the ice and snow begins to melt.
Extreme Heat Damage
Humidity isn’t much of a problem here in North Texas even though the Dallas Fort Worth area does see some bouts of humidity. When it comes to your roof depending on the ventilation you have in your attic, moisture can become trapped, especially if you are using your air conditioning unit inside the home.
The humidity can cause moss, mold, and mildew to grow on your roofing system. These moisture related funguses will cause the entire roofing system to deteriorate much more quickly. That is why making sure that your attic has a good ventilation system is important.
Other than moisture and humidity, extremely hot weather can cause your shingles to warp and crack. When the blistering sun causes your shingles to warp or crack they can quickly lose their integrity. Brittle and broken shingles won’t be much good when it comes to severe thunderstorms or snow and ice. If your shingles are beginning to look a little worse for wear, make sure to have them replaced before you have bigger problems to deal with.
