We were in need of a new roof and I took charge of hiring a roofer since my husband was not available. I decided to call several roofers to get an estimate. I called Presidio first based on the positive reviews I found online. They sent Cliffton Solis to talk to me. After speaking to Cliff and having him explain the whole process, I felt good knowing that he would be the point person on my project so I hired him right away and didn't call any other roofers. Cliff made me feel so comfortable that I could trust him. He was courteous and professional and quickly responded to my questions and texts. On the day of the install, his crew arrived early and promptly got to work laying out numerous tarps around the perimeter of the house to protect landscaping and catch any debris that might fall from the roof. They were very efficient while working and were impeccable at cleaning up the area after the roof was installed. I highly recommend Cliffton Solis and his crew at Presidio Roofing.

This experience was excellent. There was a very short notice and limited time to execute a roof replacemet. Presidio roofing stepped up, educated us kn the process was able to bring in a crew within a few days with materials on hand and complete the job in one day. Key things to note: I've asked for updates and images of the work and they were committed to comply. No mess left behind is very welcoming because we were in the process of selling our home. Being thorough, having excellent quality work, and keeping it clean and tidy is what most if not all customers value when the costs are determined. I would definitely recommend Presidio Roofing. Constructing a Roof

The Framing

Framing is the first step of construction and is just what it sounds like. It’s constructing the frame in which the rest of the roof will be built upon. This is when the pitch of the roof will be determined.

The Pitch

Determining the proper pitch is extremely important. Factors that go into the pitch not only include the plans and aesthetics, but also the materials that will be used. Certain roofing materials are not compatible with low slopes and can actually put your roofing system at risk. When it comes to the pitch of your roof, you will want to decide on your roofing material ahead of time.

Trusses

Trusses provide support for the roof, keep your roof from falling down, and are installed after the framing. They will support a large amount of weight, and are a critical part of construction as they will need to support the full weight of the materials used during and after the construction process.

Sheathing

The sheathing is a plywood material that is fixed onto the framing and forms the base of the roof. In warmer climates such as here in San Antonio, sheathing is commonly made with aluminum on one side to help reduce heat on the roof.

Drip Edge

The drip edge is a piece of metal that hangs over the edge of the roof and is designed to further protect the sheathing from rain and water damage.

Underlayment

Then comes the underlayment which is simply a protective layer over the sheathing. Also known as felt paper or tar paper, roofing underlayment is another barrier of protection from the outside elements. Today, synthetic underlayment is typically used because it is considered more durable and less likely to deteriorate over time. Until about 15 to 20 years ago tar paper was commonly used, but this practice is less popular due to the longevity of synthetic underlayment.
